The Calling

This is a poem I wrote many years ago as part of my application to attend seminary. Even all these years later it still resonates with me. There have, indeed, been valleys, some quite deep and dark, but through it all something kept me going.

Mountain near Loch Lomond, Scotland

Mountain near Loch Lomond, Scotland

In the distance, mountains call,

Drawing my gaze,

Holding my eyes;

I am a prisoner of the vision.

And though the winding road

May disappear

Among the hills and valleys,

Yet the goal is sure.

The majestic mountains call,

The impossible heights insist,

And I must go.
